Ceci est la version de la pièce "I'm Sitting in a Room" d'Alvin Lucier enregistrée au Bon Accueil (Rennes) en public durant le festival Autres Mesures, le 17 janvier 2015 au soir, dans la salle d'exposition.

I Am Sitting in a Room (littéralement, Je suis assis dans une pièce) est une des compositions les plus connues d'Alvin Lucier, enregistrée pour la première fois en 1969. Pour réaliser cette composition, Lucier s'est enregistré tandis qu'il lisait un texte. Ensuite il a rejoué l’enregistrement dans une pièce tout en se ré-enregistrant, et ainsi de suite dans de nouvelles pièces, avec toujours le même texte.

Vu que chaque pièce a des caractéristiques de résonance et de fréquences formantes différentes (ex : différence entre une grande pièce et une petite), l’effet final est que certaines fréquences sont accentuées par la résonance de telle ou telle pièce, jusqu'à ce qu'au final les mots de son texte deviennent inintelligibles, remplacés uniquement par la pure résonance des harmonies et des sons de la pièce elle-même.

I am sitting in a room (1969) is one of composer Alvin Lucier's best known works, featuring Lucier recording himself narrating a text, and then playing the recording back into the room, re-recording it. The new recording is then played back and re-recorded, and this process is repeated. Since all rooms have characteristic resonance or formant frequencies (e.g. different between a large hall and a small room), the effect is that certain frequencies are emphasized as they resonate in the room, until eventually the words become unintelligible, replaced by the pure resonant harmonies and tones of the room itself. The recited text describes this process in action—it begins "I am sitting in a room, different from the one you are in now. I am recording the sound of my speaking voice," and the rationale, concluding, "I regard this activity not so much as a demonstration of a physical fact, but more as a way to smooth out any irregularities my speech might have," referring to his own stuttering.
